வெல்கம் பேக். நீண்ட நெடுங்காலத்திற்கு பிறகு பதிவிட்டதாலோ என்னவோ தெரியவில்லை, சென்ற பதிவிற்கு பிரம்மாதமான வரவேற்ப்பு.ஒருவேளை நடுவில் ஒரு நான்கு மாதங்கள் பதிவுலகம் பக்கம் வராமல் இருந்ததால் அதற்க்கான ஆதரவுதான் இது என்று நண்பர் இரவுக்கழுகு தெரிவித்தார். அப்படியும் இருக்குமோ என்று வியந்தவாறு இன்று காலை குமுதம் இதழை படித்தபோது அரசு பதில்களில் நம்முடைய காமிக்ஸ் கிளாசிக்ஸ் இதழில் வெளிவந்த காற்றில் கரைந்த கப்பல்கள் பற்றிய பதிலை படித்தவுடன் ரொம்ப நாட்களாக நம்முடைய காமிக் கட்ஸ் பதிவுகளை இடாமல் இருப்பது நினைவுக்கு வந்தது. உடனடியாக கடந்த இரண்டு மாதங்களில் வெளிவந்த முக்கியமான காமிக் கட்ஸ்'களின் தொகுப்பை இங்கே இந்த பதிவில் வழங்கலாமென்று முடிவெடுத்ததின் விளைவே இந்த பதிவு.

குமுதம் அரசு பதில்கள்: தமிழில் அதிகமாக படிக்கப்படும் வார இதழாகிய குமுதத்தில் மக்கள் விரும்பி படிப்பது / முதலில் படிப்பது அரசு பதில்கள் பகுதியே. நம்முடைய லயன் முத்து காமிக்ஸ் இதழ்களில் எப்படி ஹாட் லைன் / காமிக்ஸ் டைமை நாம் முதலில் படிப்பது போல குமுதத்தில் பெரும்பான்மையினரால் முதலில் படிக்கப்படுவது அரசு பதில்களே.

ஆரம்பத்தில் அரசு என்பது யார்? என்றே ஒரு விவாதம் நடந்துக்கொண்டு இருந்தது. ஆனால் உங்களுக்கு ஒரு ரகசியம் சொல்கிறேன். இப்போதைய "அரசு" எனக்கு மிகவும் பரிச்சையமானவ்ர். நம்முடைய லயன் முத்து காமிக்ஸ் இதழ்கள் மீது தீராக் காதல் கொண்டவர். சென்ற ஆண்டு புத்தகத் திருவிழாவின்போது நம்முடைய காமிக்ஸ் ஸ்டாலுக்கு வந்து நம்முடைய கம்பேக் ஸ்பெஷல் மற்றும் ஃபுல் செட் ஒன்றினையும் வாங்கிக்கொண்டு சென்றவர் என்பது குறிப்பிட தக்கது.

இந்த அரசு பதில்கள் பகுதியில் நமது காமிக்ஸ் பற்றி மிகவும் பெருமையாக எழுதப்பட்டு இருப்பது மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சியை அளிக்கிறது. நன்றி அரசு, நன்றி குமுதம், நன்றி அதன் எடிட்டர் அவர்களுக்கு.

ஆனந்த விகடன் லூசுப்பையன்: கடந்த பல வருடங்களாக விகடனின் முகவரியாக மாறிவிட்ட நமது லூசுப் பையன் பகுதியில் நமது முத்து காமிக்ஸின் முகவரி (சொல்லப் போனால் தமிழ் காமிக்ஸின் முகவரி?!?) ஆக இருக்கும் (இருந்த?) இரும்புக் கை மாயாவி அவர்களை பற்றி கிண்டலடிக்கும் வகையில் சொல்லப் பட்டு இருந்தது.

பிரபலமான ஒரு பகுதியில் நம்மை பற்றி பேசுகிறார்கள் என்றாலே அது நம்முடைய புகழை பற்றித்தான் சொல்லும். அந்த வகையில் நன்றி லூசுப் பையன், நன்றி ஓவியர் கண்ணா, நன்றி எடிட்டர் of ஆனந்த விகடன்.

7 Comic Cuts 38-News 38: வெற்றிவேல் வீரவேல் - தினமலர் நாளிதழின் சிறப்பு காமிக்ஸ் வெளியீடு–தைப்பூச சிறப்பிதழ் 07-02-2012

தமிழின் முன்னணி நாளிதழாகிய தினமலர் உடன் இன்றைக்கு (தைப்பூசம்) சிறப்பு வெளியீடாக வெற்றிவேல் வீரவேல் என்கிற ஒரு காமிக்ஸ் புத்தகத்தை வெளியிடுகிறார்கள்.  தமிழில் ஏற்கனவே தரமான கதைகளை காமிக்ஸ் வடிவில் கொண்டு சேர்த்ததில் தினமலருக்கு ஒரு சிறப்பான இடமுண்டு. குறிப்பாக ஆரம்பகால சிறுவர் (வண்ண) மலர். பின்னர் காலப்போக்கில் அவை (ரசனை உட்பட) மாறினாலும், வெய்யில் காலத்து மாலைநேரச்சாரல் போல திடீரென்று சில காமிக்ஸ் கதைகளை வெளியிட்டு அசத்துவதில் தினமலருக்கு ஈடு தினமலரே.

கடந்த ஆண்டு தீபாவளியன்று இவ்வாறு ஒரு அசத்தலான காமிக்ஸ் இதழை வெளியிட்டு இருந்ததை காமிரேட்டுகள் அவ்வளவு சுலபத்தில் மறந்து இருக்க மாட்டார்கள். அதற்க்கு அடுத்ததாக இன்று தைப்பூச சிறப்பு வெளியீடாக இந்த வெற்றிவேல் வீரவேல் என்கிற காமிக்ஸ் புத்தகம் வந்து (வரப்போகிறது?) இருக்கிறது. இவ்வாறாக, இனிமேல் வருடத்திற்கு ஐந்து முதல் ஆறு சிறப்பு வெளியீடுகளாக காமிக்ஸ் கதைகளை தினமலர் நாளிதழ் வெளியிடப்போவதாக பட்சி ஒன்று என் காதில் கூறியதை இங்கே தெரிவிக்கவும் கடமைப்பட்டுள்ளேன்.

இந்த சிறப்பு வெளியீட்டிற்காக கடந்த இரண்டு நாட்களாக தினமலர் சென்னை பதிப்பில் தொடர்ந்து விளம்பரங்கள் வந்ததோடிலாமல், இன்று சென்னையின் பல இடங்களிலும் இந்த செய்தி குறித்த போஸ்டர்களை காணப்பெற்றோம். மறக்காமல் இன்றைய தினமலர் நாளிதழை வாங்குவதோடில்லாமல், நண்பர்களுக்கும் பரிந்துரைக்குமாறு கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன்.

2 Comic Cuts 35-News 35: M.S.Subbulakshmi Graphic Novel (Dina Malar Vaara Malar), Wilco Picture Library, Season’s Top 5 From Comic World & Steel Claw gets his weapons

Welcome back to TCU. Again another Comic cuts and yours truly is very much happy these days as there are lots of news on the comics front and at least they keep the interest on comics going on till we get some of the new Tamil comics for the season. Let us get on with this post.

Friday, The 15th: 15-07-2011: On this day, Yours truly initiated a small move and this particular move brought this particular quote from Neil Armstrong “One small step for a man, One giant leap for Mankind” to memory. What is that step? Is that so important to Tamil Comics? Will it have any change in the trend? Only time will answer these questions. If the results of this step is fruitful, We will have the golden era of Tamil Comics from Next year onwards. As of right now, only this much can be said of this step and keep a closer watch on these pages for the updates.

The Hindu – Wilco Picture Library: There are so many picture libraries in India which are very much similar to that of ACK in both content and style. Most of them lack the extra edge required to last long. However, there is no stopping for the new publications to try and make some impression. Here is a new one named Wilco Picture library. TCU has tried some of these in the month of March itself and they are OK to say the least.

If you haven’t read this, you’ll definitely regret missing it later on.

Dina Malar Siruvar Malar – Steel Claw Copy Cate Lee Rock: Some time back TCU has done a post about the resurrection of Siruvar Malar. Now they have reverted to the old style again and they have only 2 comics stories in the entire book, spanning a grand total of 8 pages. In out last comic cuts post (Comic cuts 34), we have mentioned that this new series titled Lee Rock is aping the most loved Comic Character of South India for the last 41 years.

The story line continues and here in this latest episode, Lee rock gets his gadgets in his artificial steel claw and if they are similar to that of Louis Crandell, am not surprised. Here are the pages for this week’s episode.

10 Comic Cuts 34-News 34: M.S.Subbu Lakshmi’s Graphic Novel (Kungumam), Spider Man’s Death (Kumudham) & A New Steel Claw?

Welcome back to TCU with another dose of Comics & related news features. As TCU is nearing 100 posts, the number of news posts (Comic Cuts) keep on increasing and this trend is rather healthy. Healthy in the sense that at least we have some news and related articles when we don’t have enough comics in Tamil. Hopefully this shortage of Comics will be overcome very shortly and we will be having our monthly new comics review very, very soon. Enough of the future and let’s get on with the current news.

01 Kungumam – Lakshmi Devnath’ s Graphic Novel: Since the launch, this particular book is getting more and more positive reviews in the media space and this holds good for the other entrants in the graphic novel domain. The message is loud and clear: If the content is good and provided the presentation is world class, we will welcome with both arms. Now, it is the turn of Kungumam Weekly and the review is wonderful, to say the least.

03 Dina Malar Siruvar Malar – Another Steel Claw?: We all loved THE Steel Claw aka Irumbuk kai Maayavi (இரும்புக்கை மாயாவி) as he is known in South India since the last 41 years. There have been more than a dozen copy-cat Steel claws from the local comics stories and most of them were failures and the few ones which got some sort of success was from Mullai Thangarasan himself. Some years ago, there was a TV Serial in Jaya TV which was in 3-D format where the hero had similar traits to that of Louis Crandell.  Now, here comes another one. Some time back TCU has done a post about the resurrection of Siruvar Malar. Sadly, they have reverted to the old style with very little space for comics, that too translated from Hindhi market. 14 Comic Cuts 32-News 32: ‘Nool’ Pandiyan, Graphic Novel on M.S.Subbulakshmi & TV Celebrity Reading Comics

Dear ComiRades,

Welcome back to TCU after a very short break. Over the last 3 months, the trend on the number of posts and the sequence has been similar. Not much posts in the first 20 days and a continuous uploading of them in the next 10 days. Even in this month, the trend is following and try as hard, TCU couldn’t break the repeating of the same trend. Hopefully from next month onwards the trend may get reversed. However, one good thing for the last 3/4 months is that the number of posts is being constant: A Minimum of 5 posts per month, though most of them are Comic Cuts and TCU Presents series. A Lot of reader request are arriving with post requests on golden oldies of Tamil comics being the top of the request list. TCU is trying the best to accommodate them in the near future.

Moving on to the current post, this Comic Cuts is also similar to that of the News Post 28 (Comic Cuts 28) for the simple reason that all the news items are in Tamil language. TCU will try to differentiate the news articles in language wise in the near future as well. Henceforth the news articles in English will be segregated and posted in a single post and the remaining Tamil news articles related to Comics will be featuring in Tamil Comic Cuts.

01 Puthiya Thalaimurai – Nool Pandiyan: The name Nool Pandiyan is very popular amongst book collectors. Ever since TCU regained the Comics interest, the hunt was on to get the missing issues of Tamil comics and at that time Nool Pandiyan was introduced by one of the ComiRades. Nool Pandiyan is more popular and got more access to many book series than Mylapore Alwar and his book shop. His TV Interview will also be featured in the forthcoming Comic Cuts with the video. 03 Anantha Vikatan – M.S.Subbulakshmi Graphic Novel: TCU has done a complete post on this book and that can be read over here (TCU Presents 04). It was nice to see leading magazines give their due respect to a honest work in the field of Comics. TCU expects much more coverage for the same in the near future.

04 Dina Mani Kathir – M.S.Subbulakshmi Graphic Novel: Anantha Vikatan has given only a small introduction about the book. Dina Mani Kathir has given a wonderful review of the same with photos and scans. We expected such work from Dina Mani based on their literary likening. Hopefully their own Children's magazine (Siruvar Mani) may get revamped, just like Dinamalar Siruvar malar gotten for a shorter period.

Kungumam – Graphic Novel on Steve Jobs & Kumudham – Mamathi Chari reading Comics: Most of the Tamilians know that Mamathi chari is a popular RJ/TV Compere. She was also an ex colleague of Yours truly. During those days, the Comics fire was not re-ignited with Yours truly and hence may not looked after those interest. The next time we meet, you can bet on the topic of the 1st question. The Photo of SriDevi was un-edited in the scan for some old timers.

35 Siruvar Malar–Re Charged & Resurrected: The Story of Revival of Siruvar Malar 2011

Welcome back to TCU. Though TCU is not travelling much for the last 30 days, the work schedule is so hectic that it has affected the regular posting over here. (Regular posting in TCU? Now, don’t laugh, OK). Just like TCU, Another sleeping Giant has woken up in 2011 and has plans to take the Tamil Comics ulagam by the storm. Yes, we are talking about Siruvar Malar – The Supplement Book of Dina Malar News Paper (Official Site http://www.dinamalar.com/) on Fridays in most parts of Tamil Nadu.

Now, most of us know that Siruvar Malar is the Comics book in A4 Size which is a supplement with the Friday’s News Paper of Dina Malar. However, there are many interesting stories to be told on their start. Contrary to the beliefs, Siruvar Malar is NOT the title of this book when they actually started it way back in 1985. On the 4th Friday of Nov 1985, Most of the regular readers of Dina Malar were waiting eagerly to know what is going to be given to them as a supplement with their regular news paper. it was advertised earlier in Dina Malar that they will be getting Siruvar Vanna Malar as a supplement on Friday and hence they were anxious to know what is going to be the format of the new supplement.

Some time back, Dina Malar has just launched another weekly supplement named VaaraMalar which used to be made available with the Sunday News paper. It proved to be a master stroke for the news paper and to continue with the winning trend, they have introduced a new supplement on Friday’s to capture the Children’s market. So, the arrival of Siruvar Vanna Malar on that Friday was almost similar to a release of a big movie (However, there is a small note to be added in the history. Most of the supplements were used to be printed much earlier than the due date and were sent to the distributors much in advance. So, instead of Friday, the prominent News paper agents received this on Wednesday itself. So, statistically speaking, the launch date has to be 20-11-1985 instead of 22-11-1985. Amongst those who laid their hands on the book on Wednesday's rather than Friday’s was our own AVL.

Here is the 1st ever issue of Siruvar Vanna Malar and the editorial where the Editor says that in the fast paced world, most of the parents either have no time or patience (or rather, the knowledge) to tell stories to their young guns. Dina Malar has taken the initiative to compensate for this with the advent of Siruvar Vanna Malar. Apologies for the cropped cover scans where you miss the 1st letter of the title. As with most Indians, the 1st ever book has Lord Vinayaga in the cover.

Another startling statistic to be mentioned over here (apart from the title) is the number of pages. Unlike the present day structure, The earlier versions of Siruvar Vanna Malar was not off 32 pages. instead it was of 16 Pages out of which 8 were in multi colour and the remaining 8 were in (what we call as) double colour. Here is the sample of the same with the 2 major stories from the ACK titles Murugan and Ganesa covering most of the ground in the initial issue. The multi colour sample pages are also included for a better idea.

What is to be noted is the repetition of the stories for the Tamil ComiRades. Yes, these stories have already appeared exactly 1 year back (1984) through Poonthalir Amar Chitra Kathai series from the Poonthalir group. Not only that, the original ACK series from IBH has also published these 2 titles in Tamil language. Let us not deviate from our post topic now and will blog about PACK later on, Very soon-though. Coming back to the Siruvar Vanna Malar issues, take a not on the 4th issue cover which is titled as Siruvar Malar rather than the regular title. Technically speaking, 13th December 1985 is the date from which the title Siruvar Malar is existing.

From this beginning, Siruvar Malar had a tremendous run whereby they went on to publish strip stories from the famed Fleetway group (Couple of them have appeared later on in Lion Comics) and stories from the Greatest ever story teller for Children of all ages in Tamil – The incomparable Vandu Mama. The next four and half years were some of the best years not only for Siruvar Malar, but also for the Tamil Comics as a whole. This was the golden period of Tamil Comics (Discussed briefly over HERE). Later on, when the content supply (both local and international) dried up, Siruvar Malar’s standard took a dent and post 2000, it was going down rapidly. 3 years back there was a huge discussion about the revival of these magazines and it took some time to see the result. However, this post is not about the history of Siruvar Malar. TCU has planned to do a complete index posting on Siruvar Malar later on.

So, exactly one week ago TCU got a call from one of the most respected names in Tamil Comics industry and the information passed on was the revival of the Siruvar Malar (or should we say, Resurrection?). And to add to the surprise, Dina Malar has also put up a small advertisement about the new feel Siruvar Malar. So, just like 1985, we were waiting for the new issue of Siruvar Malar with lot of interest and the waiting was worth. Here is the details about the New Siruvar Malar (From now onwards, named as Siruvar Malar Revived SMR).

If you guys were wondering what was the response for this new initiative from Dina Malar, let me tell you in a simple way: Hooked for a Sixer. Yes, the response was tremendous and so thrilled was the Dina Malar Management that they put up a Thanks card in the 1st page of the News paper yesterday. There were enquiries to the office as well. Also, Yours truly got couple of calls about the new format of Dina Malar Siruvar Malar from the trusted ComiRades, thus enhancing the popularity and the reach of the magazine. It seems that the new version is here to stay and let us welcome it with open hearts. It is a season of revival in Tamil Comics and amidst this, Siruvar Malar has also contributed its worth. Let us hope that 2011 is a land mark year in the annals of Tamil Comics Ulagam.
