வெல்கம் பேக். நீண்ட நெடுங்காலத்திற்கு பிறகு பதிவிட்டதாலோ என்னவோ தெரியவில்லை, சென்ற பதிவிற்கு பிரம்மாதமான வரவேற்ப்பு.ஒருவேளை நடுவில் ஒரு நான்கு மாதங்கள் பதிவுலகம் பக்கம் வராமல் இருந்ததால் அதற்க்கான ஆதரவுதான் இது என்று நண்பர் இரவுக்கழுகு தெரிவித்தார். அப்படியும் இருக்குமோ என்று வியந்தவாறு இன்று காலை குமுதம் இதழை படித்தபோது அரசு பதில்களில் நம்முடைய காமிக்ஸ் கிளாசிக்ஸ் இதழில் வெளிவந்த காற்றில் கரைந்த கப்பல்கள் பற்றிய பதிலை படித்தவுடன் ரொம்ப நாட்களாக நம்முடைய காமிக் கட்ஸ் பதிவுகளை இடாமல் இருப்பது நினைவுக்கு வந்தது. உடனடியாக கடந்த இரண்டு மாதங்களில் வெளிவந்த முக்கியமான காமிக் கட்ஸ்'களின் தொகுப்பை இங்கே இந்த பதிவில் வழங்கலாமென்று முடிவெடுத்ததின் விளைவே இந்த பதிவு.

குமுதம் அரசு பதில்கள்: தமிழில் அதிகமாக படிக்கப்படும் வார இதழாகிய குமுதத்தில் மக்கள் விரும்பி படிப்பது / முதலில் படிப்பது அரசு பதில்கள் பகுதியே. நம்முடைய லயன் முத்து காமிக்ஸ் இதழ்களில் எப்படி ஹாட் லைன் / காமிக்ஸ் டைமை நாம் முதலில் படிப்பது போல குமுதத்தில் பெரும்பான்மையினரால் முதலில் படிக்கப்படுவது அரசு பதில்களே.

ஆரம்பத்தில் அரசு என்பது யார்? என்றே ஒரு விவாதம் நடந்துக்கொண்டு இருந்தது. ஆனால் உங்களுக்கு ஒரு ரகசியம் சொல்கிறேன். இப்போதைய "அரசு" எனக்கு மிகவும் பரிச்சையமானவ்ர். நம்முடைய லயன் முத்து காமிக்ஸ் இதழ்கள் மீது தீராக் காதல் கொண்டவர். சென்ற ஆண்டு புத்தகத் திருவிழாவின்போது நம்முடைய காமிக்ஸ் ஸ்டாலுக்கு வந்து நம்முடைய கம்பேக் ஸ்பெஷல் மற்றும் ஃபுல் செட் ஒன்றினையும் வாங்கிக்கொண்டு சென்றவர் என்பது குறிப்பிட தக்கது.

இந்த அரசு பதில்கள் பகுதியில் நமது காமிக்ஸ் பற்றி மிகவும் பெருமையாக எழுதப்பட்டு இருப்பது மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சியை அளிக்கிறது. நன்றி அரசு, நன்றி குமுதம், நன்றி அதன் எடிட்டர் அவர்களுக்கு.

33 Comic Cuts 39-News 39: Tamil Comics Make a Comeback–Indian Express Exclusive Story

Dear ComiRades,

Welcome back to TCU. It’s been a very long time since we have featured our regular Comic Cuts section where we pass on the news about Tamil Comics in particular and Comics per se. Sometimes, the professional work takes so much out of yours truly that the regular section of comics news wasn’t regularly updated. Even it featured TCU (Times of India & Vikatan Group). However, this particular article was not the one to be missed out. Hence, even at the rate of getting accused of self promotion, we present you Comic Cuts 39.

Today’s Indian Express News Paper’s Chennai Express carried an Exclusive news on the come back of the Tamil Comics and the availability of the same in Chennai. This particular meeting of the Tamil ComiRades took place on 06th April 2012, which happens to be the birthday of Olaga Comics Rasigar aka GEC. TCU thanks him for making to the meeting, in spite of his busy schedule and birthday celebrations. To make the article more interesting, here are some very interesting tit bits about Tamil comics and some of them need a clarified reading. For Example, the number of books published in ACK original run in the 60’s was only 117 and hence it was mentioned as 117 books. Some people who read it at the surface level, can argue that ACK has got more than 500 comics titles in Tamil. However, the original run is considered here for the stalwarts who have translated them.

Likewise, though Indrajal comics was published in Tamil from the 60’s itself, they stuttered in between and got started all over again. Hence, Muthu Comics can be credited with the fact that they are the 1st regular comics books from Tamil Nadu.

55 Comic Cuts 21-News 21: Tin Tin in Limelight & Top Heroin reading Comics

Dear ComiRades,

Welcome back. After last weeks post, there was lots of enquiry related to the puzzle part involving the heroin reading comics. There were lots of phone calls, mails and messages with lots of guessing going on. Dr 7 has hyped it up by means of commenting earlier with relation to Actress Kushboo. However, when we have mentioned it as a frontline heroin, Kushboo is automatically ruled out for the simple reason that she no longer plays the lead role in the films, anymore. However, that fact is not ruled out entirely. In the near future, TCU may post something in the lines of that (based on the very little interaction TCU had with her). So, wait for that. Meanwhile, Those who have guessed it for Nayanthara can wait for one more week as TCU will feature her in next weeks Comic Cuts section in Monday. Now, then. Dr 7 and others can take a note on the fact that we are maintaining our weekly news post on Monday’s. Regularly other posts will also make their way in. So, the mocking on the regularity of TCU’s posts can be well left.

Let us get back to last week’s post where we put a small teaser saying that next week TCU Shall feature a news about a heroin. Here it is. Neha Dhupia seems to be reading Tin Tin fondly and if the news that it is available in Hindi language may enthuse her more so.

Now, As TCU was not publishing News Post for the last 8 months, many important things happened in that period went unnoticed by many. Now that we are active with News posts, TCU is bringing one by one of the things happened in the time just passed. In the month of April, there was a surge of comics news about Tin Tin. Most of them were related to the launch of the Hindi version of the immortal hero from Belgium. Here is the 1st among many:

Tin Tin’s Indian entry was brought by a Delhi based Publisher named Om Books. Their home page had the picture of Tin Tin to make sure people got their attention towards him. Even TCU liked the way it was promoted. During the last week of April 2010, TCU had the pleasure of talking to the man behind this mission and they were very much enthusiastic about the launch. Initially only 6 books were published in Hindi and later on 2 more titles were added to the translated versions and the total count now is 8 with many more in the wing in the next year itself. Here is how Tin Tin's crew is Indianised:

• Snowy                               – Natkhat
• Thompson & Thompson – Santu & Bantu
• Prof. Calculus                  - Prof. Aryabhat Suryamukhi

Tin Tin being a big brand name, he remains unchanged. Apart from that, the famous witty lines also change over into Hindi. Some of the most notable lines are:

• Millions and millions of squirming black turtles     - karodo karod kasmasate kaale kacchuve.
• Ten thousand thundering typhoons                         - dus hazaar tadtadate toofan
• Great snake                                                              - baal ki khaal

Each and every one these books are priced at INR 195/- which is almost half of what the selling price in India for the English versions. Here are the title and cover pages of all the 8 books which are translated so far:

One thing that is noticeable is that Deccan Chronicle gets these kind of information printed much quicker than other much higher ranked news papers such as The Hindu, Times of India etc. That effort for Comics news has to be appreciated. This article appeared a clear 4 days ahead of the Hindu’s article.

19 May 3 – World Press Freedom Day:Saluting Lion Comics

Dear ComiRades,

As TCU Was Preparing the Promised Mini Lion Post Yesterday so that it can be uploaded today, 2 Things happened which forced to postpone the Proposed Mini Lion post to Next week. (1) Muthu Fan’s Reminder and (2) Today Happens to be World Press Freedom Day, Of course.

Now, the Word Press Freedom can be taken in two ways: (1) Freedom of the Press to remind the Governments towards their duty of respect and to uphold the right of freedom of Expression enshrined under Article 19. In other words, Press must have absolute freedom to publish what they perceive to be towards common growth. (2) Freedom By the Press wherein the Editor Has the Moral responsibility to Publish Letter’s / Comments even if they question the Editorial itself, As long as they are written without any Unparliamentarily Words. In other Words, No Screening of them on Bias. It will be Practically impossible to publish all the Letters or Comments received. However, Important Ones (even if they criticise them) are to be published or Acknowledged.

Example for the First Type will be The Indian Express News Paper, which is always been a Straight forward News Paper in the eyes of Yours Truly and many will Acknowledge this without blinking their eyes. Being straight forward can be detrimental to the growth of the Magazine as well, and The Indian Express News Paper Has suffered a Lot in terms of Ad revenues and many other ways which cannot be revealed in a Open forum like this. TCU Salutes The Indian Express News Paper on World Press Freedom Day for Upholding the true meaning of Press Freedom.

Example for the second type will be Our Own Lion Comics. Let me tell you very Openly that there is No Bias involved in this. At the Age when Media Titan’s are Shy of Publishing a refusal letter from a Celebrity Writer (See this Link here), Not Only Lion Comics Has Published a Letter of Two Pages totally Damaging them, But also had the patience to write the answers to the so called queries. Now, the reason for choosing them is very clear. In the Above case of Anandha Vikatan, the news is known to every one because the refusal letter was posted in a Web Site. However, in the Case of Lion Comics, Had the letter not been published Nobody would have noticed except the person who wrote it. Still, The Editor had the Guts to Publish Such a Letter and went on to answer those queries as well.

At this age of Diminishing Ethical Values, When one Publisher is still doing it, Let us Salute them and appreciate the fact that even though they are Small Publishers when compared to other Giants out here, They are Second to None when it comes to Upholding the true meaning of Press Freedom. Mr Vijayan, You are a Champion. Hats Off to you. Here is the Letter and the respective Answer by the editor:

Wow, That was Really Hot and i can see Loads of Lava and Fire in that. At that Same time, this comment was written by a Fan who has his own opinion and understanding of things and workings. By the way, TCU Has removed the Name and Address of the ComiRade who has written this Hot letter. Had this happened to a Immature Person or Somebody with Bloated Ego, They Would have Straightaway ignored the letter, without realising the facts that by doing so, we do lose out a Quality Reader (Yes, a Normal Comic Fan will not take this much of effort to write Such a Lengthy Letter). All that is required in such circumstances was a Little bit of Common Sense and Usage of the Same.

Here, if the editor Chose to remain silent, then the fan would have thought that his Point of view was Right and will be complaining about the Publisher for the rest of His Life. And One such Fan is enough to create Mayhem among the rest. Well the Editor chose the Right path and went on to answer the queries of the Fan and Clearing all his doubts. Some ComiRades may Argue that in Lion Comics’ Case, the letter was Wrong and hence he can Jolly well Publish the Letter and his set of Answers to it. What if the Letter was Right? Would he still went on to publish so?

Gentlemen, Hold your Horses. Regular ComiRades may Recall many a Time that the editor has accepted the shortcomings from his side when a True Fan points them out. There are many examples to quote that. A Man becomes complete ONLY when he accepts his Shortcomings and acknowledges it. That He did was a Case to prove that This man is a Champion and TCU Salutes him for that. The Editor still had the Guts to Print the Name and complete address of the Writer also in the Book. Now, that’s what i call a Very Lengthy Letter. Now that the Serious part is over, Let us concentrate on Lighter and better things.

38 News 14: Tin Tin, Commando Comics, Wild West Digest – Times Of India , The Indian Express & Deccan Chronicle

TCU is back with (Yet) another News Post over Here.  On Jan 13th TCU has done a coverage Post on this Tin Tin Controversy (Read that Here) which marred the 80th anniversary of Tin Tin on Jan 10. Ritanshu Bhattacharya has done a nice coverage of the news and this article is by far the best of the other articles on the Tin Tin Controversy.

Another article related to Tin Tin and No, this is no way related to the Gay Controversy which was the theme of almost all the articles in the news category last month. This was about the “Local Version” of the Tin Tin VCD’s and DVD’s available. Zee Cafe of late is doing a Re-Run of the Tin Tin animated tales and the same is shown on Zee TV in Hindi Language. ComiRades may recall that sometime back Lucky Luke was available in Star One Channel in Hindi Language as well. Another Birdie reminds TCU that Martin Mystery is shown in Chutti TV in Tamil Language. The Graphic Pick section in Times of India has now become the most awaited segment for TCU as it is doing a good review of some of the good collections. Here is one which, to say the truth, is not that much liked by TCU. However, this one, edited by George Low is been rated highly by some of the ComiRades and Ayyampalayam Venki Sir has this book in his home (Hey,Am not giving any unwanted info). By the way, Ayyampalayam Sir is living alone as of right now and From 8 AM till 5 PM he will not be available in his home (Again TCU is not giving any Un-Wanted Info over here).

The Indian Express regularly does cover the Comics segment. Here is one such article that is written by renowned Blogger Nithin Koshy on Conan The Barbarian. This character has always been my favourite one ever since Arnold took this Character one to Hollywood.Here is an review of one of Conan’s Stories.

(1) Edited by The Great Steve Holland (No more reasons required apart from this).

(2) Has a good collection of Stories such as Kit Carson, Buck Jones, etc who are already known to Tamil Comics Ulagam by virtue of Rani Comics, Sasi Comics etc.

(3) There is one character who has appeared in one of the special issues of Rani Comics and and particular hero is featured in this book as well. Those ComiRades who can recollect that Rani Comics Hero and comment the answer correctly will stand to get a special prize from TCU.
