Dear ComiRades,
Welcome Back. This is the 1st post in the month of Feb 2011 and hopefully many more to follow. Now, then: TCU is getting many a personal mails and SMS’s on posting too many Comic Cuts/News Posts. However, when there are News items to be made aware, it becomes our duty not to ignore them. Anything and everything related with Tamil comics will be recorded over here and this trend will continue in the near future as well and also in the times to come. Hence, let us get into another on of our customary News Posts: Comic Cuts 27.
We all know that the Editor of Tamil weekly magazine Kumudam (Official website: http://www.kumudam.com/) is a ComiRade and he has already read the Lion Comics Issue No 208 – XIII Ratha Padalam Jumbo Special issue. He even wrote about this in his celebrated Q & A Section last week and that was blogged in TCU over HERE. After that particular book was on stands, many a ComiRade felt very happy and they thought this is the ultimate honour for the issue. To follow up that, this week’s Kumudam has carried a letter in response to that XIII Jumbo special write up in Arasu padhilgal. One Mr M.G.Bharath from Dindukkal (Tamil Nadu) has written a letter to the editor of kumudam that he also wants to read that comics. Such is the writing style of Arasu that a non-comic reader is also tempted to read it.
Apart from that, This weeks Anandha Vikatan weekly (official website: http://new.vikatan.com/) also had a interesting news which may enthuse the long time comic readers. Yes, in one of it’s star reply (Director Bala) section, one person has asked about the favourite author. For that question, The controversial director says that he loves the long running daily strip of Kanni Theevu from the Daily News paper Thina Thanthi & as he does not know the author, he cannot say who his favourite author is. ComiRades may recall that Mr Ayyampalayam Venkateswaran has already blogged about this daily strip in his wonderful blog. Here is the link: Comics Pookkal
Here is the scan:

The weekly magazine Puthiya Thalaimurai has already showed it’s penchant for Comics by articles and book reviews. Here is one more to add to that list. Mr M.P.Udhaya Suriyan (Thala to us) has reviewed this cartoon book on one of the famous leaders of Tamil Nadu – Arignar Anna. This book contains all the caricatures and cartoons drawn over the life time of the leader & is a must buy for the party men.

We all know that the annual Chennai Book fair happens in the 1st week of the year in Chennai. Likewise, there is a Art Fair happening in the neighbourhood state of Bangaluru every year for the last 8 years. Anandha Vikatan magazine has covered this year’s fair with it’s youth artist Shyam taking through the fair with his own vision. Here are the scans of the same and enjoy the detailed work. Maybe next year TCU will plan for a visit there.

Old News 01: From this Comic Cuts onwards, TCU will try to bring on some of the old news related to Comics and artists of Tamil Comics Ulagam. Here is one such news. Though not much old, this news was not posted earlier as TCU was not doing much of the news posts at that time. This news is self explanatory. Here is that:
Kalki Weekly Magazine - Issue Dated 15082010 - Gift to Artist jeyaraj by other Artists – Art by Maruthi, Maniyam Selvam & Aras |
Old News 02: This is another news about the enquiry about Tamil and Indian comics. This news appeared in India Today magazine some 6 years ago and was available online. Hence this news is here.

Now,then; The next post will on the year end review post for the year ended 2010. Most probably that will be done by Monday and from this month onwards, ComiRades will see a radical change in the number of posts in TCU.
Well, that's all for the time being. As usual, post your comments in the comments section. For those who want to Pen their thoughts in Tamil, Kindly Use the Option Provided in the Widget in the Blog.
Thanks & Regards,
King Viswa.

The scans are lovely. Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeletestill waiting for the year end review post. it has been THE NEXT POST for the last 10 posts.
will it ever see the day light?
have you all noticed on thing? whenever there is an article about tamil comics in any of the leading tamil magazines, there is invariably somebdoy writting a letter about it, not necessarily a comic fan; but a commoner.
ReplyDeletethere are people who are interested in tamil comics as a mainstream publication. only the number of books per year is dwindling since last 6 years. once there is an increase in that, people will always come back to it.

Dear Friend,
As of right now, there is no comics in the shops as the last regular issue of Lion/Muthu comics was made available in 2009. in 2010, only jumbo special came. hence you will not find them in shops.
If you really want to buy the old issues, kindly contact their office in sivakasi. they will send you the books on receipt of payment through DD/Cheque.

thanks for the informative write up.
ReplyDeletethe cartoonaninam book seems to be very expensive and also this was an old books which was published some 8 months ago, if iam right.
ReplyDeletebooks like this which has mass appeal amongst many (including the partymen) could have made at a lesser price than rs 500.
