10 News 13: TinTin - Gay? (Hindu & DC), Obama With Spiderman (DinaMalar) & I.E Reviews

Dear ComiRades,

Many a Thanks for all of those who called/SMS' ed/Commented/Mailed me on my last News with Chennai Book Fair and the availability of Tamil Comics Books, Especially Lion Comics and Muthu Comics. It gives us great strength to know that many of you follow TCU when it comes to anything related to Comics. Thanks a Ton.

When TinTin celebrated his 80th Birthday, a New controversy broke out when a British Senator questioned the Character of TinTin while proposing that he is a Gay. Here are two articles related to that. By the way, TCU Has a complete story on TinTin & considering the number of Scans in this post, that part was relegated to future post. When we read the Deccan Chronicle article, TCU couldn't Miss the point when they got the comment from Mr Gaman (Remember Cheziyan's Comment in the previous post).

As Usual, Americans tried to catch with up with the Obama Factor and the fact that he is going to be crowned as the president of U.S of A Soon. Hence, they tried another marketing strategy by combining Spiderman (Imaginary Saviour) with Obama (The Supposedly Real Life Saviour). This was carried as a News in Kalaignar TV (A Tamil Channel from India) on 9th Jan in their evening News. TCU Will try to get that news as well.

The remaining scans are the usual weekly reviews from Indian Express where M/s Sneha Nagesh is doing a commendable job by writing regularly on Comics. However, have a closer look at the first scan from Deccan Chronicle for it gives another significant moment for the graphic novel segment in India. Mr Amit DasGupta has tried his new story in the graphic Novel style and that fact itself needs to be appreciated.

Of Late, the Number of ComiRades turning into Bloggers is increasing like anything. Here is another one: Mr Shiva from Chennai (Designer By Nature & Artist By Profession) has started his own Blog Named Art of Comics and hopefully will continue to enthrall us with his quality of writing. He, sometimes, comments under the pseudonym of Captain Tiger. Welcome Shiva to the exciting world of Comi-Blogging.

Another one, Our Beloved Chithira Puthaga Maha Rasigan, Has also started his own blog and TCU Expects a Lot from CPMR From U.S of A. Of Course, he has put only a test post, he already has a follower as well. Waiting for greater things from you Mr CPMR. Don't let us Down.

Laziness is Catching up with TCU & It can be gauged by the fact that in the last 5 posts, 4 of them turns out to be News Articles. This trend will be arrested very soon by a Intro Post. As usual, post your comments in the comments section. For those who want to Pen their thoughts in Tamil, Kindly Use the Option Provided in the Widget in the sidebar.

17 News 12: Comicology in Limelight (Anandha Vikatan), Battle Comics (TOI) & Book Exhibition (TCU)

AV 0902009 Page 18 Dear ComiRades,

Lots Of Things (Almost all of them Are Personal) Like Yours Truly Meeting with an Accident, Car Damages, Official Work, Traveling, Blogger Being Banned in Office, BSNL - Broadband - Blogger - Problem, My Own Net Connect Card's Connectivity Problem etc forced Me to Post yet another News post (Even This is delayed by 2 days). Anyway, Of late, TCU is giving more Reasons than Results. Let us hope that The new Year brings much more Joy than the past one, Which in many Ways was one of the Worst, if not the Worst, years in Yours Truly's very, very short life time.

The New Year Has been very good to Tamil Comics Bloggers, Especially to the 2 Senior most Bloggers. In the last posting, We have covered How The Chennai News Paper Deccan Chronicle carried an article about our own Beloved Muthu Fan (Who, i must say, is still Cannot Be Reached through Phone). In this week, we are Looking at The second most Senior Blogger, Our Comicology Rafiq, being covered in Anandha Vikatan (ஆனந்த விகடன் - Chennai Based Tamil Weekly Magazine) in their Welcome Page (வரவேற்பறை - A Section where they introduce Blogs, Books, Music, Movies to the Readers). Die-Hard ComiRades May recollect that in the same page in 2006, The Comic Blog which is pending for up-dation and one more Comics site were covered.

Hats Off to Rafiq. This is the Second accolade that he is winning in the Last 2 weeks. Earlier, he won the Prestigious TCU's Inaugural Award for the Best Looking Blog and Now this token of appreciation from the well known and widely respected Magazine from Chennai. Way to go Rafiq. The way he is improving his Site is tremendous. TOI 09012009 CT Page 10

Now, the second part of the Comics news. This is about the Graphic pick section from the Times Of India's Chennai Times Segment on page No 10 of Today's Edition. ComiRades Who visit Landmark Bookshop in Chennai must be knowing about these books for the last 9 Months. The Big Volume Books on War, Wild West etc from the Golden Oldies of Fleetway's Best of the Best collections. This is one among them. It features 12 stories and about 6 of them are Good and hence it becomes an object to buy. However, what prevents from doing so, is the way the book is packaged: Hard to read and preserve. Have a Try.

Now Comes the Most Interesting part of the Post. The 32nd Chennai Book Fair which got started yesterday is a place to visit for the comics fans as there is a Stall for All those ComiRades who often ask where to buy the previous issues of Lion and Muthu Comics. Here in stall 35 (Info Books) you can get all those books which got published from post 2000. Go Grab it, Chennaities. This is your chance for buying in Chennai instead of Sivakasi. The Man behind this wonderful initiative is One Mr Arun from Saidapet, Chennai. Hats off to Him. The News is that the Lion Comics Special (Jolly Special)  is sold out in the stall. Hurry.

13 News 11: Muthu Fan & His Blog (Deccan Chronicle), Chanda Mama - Ramayana (TOI) & Comics Vs Movies (I.E)

Dear ComiRades,

Hopefully The New Year has been good to you all. Always a New Beginning Makes us to feel much better and let us hope for the best from 2009. Queries were coming Left, Right and Center in spite of My request of Not to ask on the "New" set of Tamil Comics, which i predicted will make their "Possible" Debut in this particular Year.

Here is the News Update on the Comics Front which may be Interesting to all of TCU Readers. First among the equals is the article on
Muthu Fan (முத்து விசிறி) which got published in Deccan Chronicle (Daily News Paper Which Gets printed in Chennai having H.O in A.P) on last Wednesday. The article got published in "Chennai Chronicle" on Page No 26. Unlike the Other D.C Articles, this one was written well and, Surprise - Surprise, Has the author's Name on the article as well. Mr Bijoy Bharathan Has penned this articular Article in a nice way and let us hope that he writes many of such articles in future.

MuthuFan Was not available to comment and once he comes back from the Family vocation, TCU will have the updating part as well. This cross reference is to make sure that Deccan Chronicle does not repeat what they have done in July 2008. This article also reveals that How our MuthuFan got inspired by reading Tamil Comics. The portion of the article in which MuthuFan gets mentioned is Highlighted by TCU to make it easy for the ComiRades.

The Second Article is is about what we can expect from the Year 2009 (Sort of the Predictions made by TCU in the last post) whereby they have mentioned about the Graphic Novel Version of Chennai Based Visionary Author and Creator Mr Gaman's on Gandhi. Interesting. TCU will have a Update on this as well with a Possible interview in the near future. This particular Article also appeared on 31st Dec 2008's Chennai Chronicle page No 26.

The Next article appeared in Time Of India on 2nd Jan 2009 on Page 8 of the Supplementary Chennai Times. This was about the Book from Chandamama. Ramayana - ராமாயணம் is brought back to life in an illustrated form by the famed Chennai based Publishing house. The price appears quite nice on the fact that it is a complete book without any parts/sequels. TCU Has covered News Articles on Chandamama earlier as well and
Click Here to have a look on the previous Media articles relating to Chandamama. Chandamama, one hopes, will also provide a complete edition of the popular stories on "Vikram and Vetal - விக்ரமனும் வேதளமும்" and "Mahabharat - மஹாபாரதம்" in the near future.

The Next one in the long list of articles based on Comics is from The Indian Express where they have a reference article which is connected with the latest post of Mr Kanavugalin Kadhalan (கனவுகளின் காதலன்). Yes, it is about Movies based on Comics and There is this talk about Watchmen, the 1986 epic which is about to get released as a Movie in March 2009.

TCU Will do a Complete Review of the Movie as and when it hits the Indian Theatres in This Quarter. Good Times are here again for all the comics Fans who love their movies made out of their favourite books.

Then the other scan is about the reviews of other comics such as Lone Ranger (Who is known to all of us through Rani Comics As Mugamoodi Veeran Billy - முகமூடி வீரன் பில்லி), Red Sonja, Scream Queen, Jack of Fables and the much acclaimed Silver fish.

Well, that's all for the time being. As usual, post your comments in the comments section. For those who want to Pen their thoughts in Tamil, Kindly Use the Option Provided in the Widget in the sidebar. The next Old Review Post will be on the 6th issue of James Bond Comics (Pending - Apologies as TCU Has Missed the Book). TCU Will be back another post on Wednesday with an interesting topic which will make the old timers happy.

Once again TCU Wishes all the readers a Happy and Wonderful New Year.

Thanks & Regards,
King Viswa.
